O

verall a very successful season for the seconds both on the field and off it. Some fantastic individual performances coupled with an excellent team ethic (amazing considering the amount of personnel changes) and great leadership from Wayne led the seconds to a runners-up spot in the league table, missing out by just 1 point for the championship.

3rd Collinbourne 31 05 14 39

The season began away at eventual champions Winsley and Marshfield arrived with a “mixed” team consisting of several 3rd team regulars and Shane Andrews drafted in at the last minute. A shocking mid to lower order batting collapse apart, Marshfield put up a brave fight but eventually lost the game with a couple of overs to go.

This proved to be the only defeat for the seconds up until late July! An amazing feat considering, due to the erratic nature of availabilities, the same eleven did not take the field in consecutive games all season. Notable victories were by 98 runs at home to Purton and by 206 runs away at Devizes !

2ndXI v Winsley 30 08 14 24

Marshfield defeated every opponent at least once during the season, (apart from Nationwide when both games were cancelled) and put in many impressive performances, especially with the bat.

The seconds won 12, lost 3 and had 3 cancelled of their league games and finished on a very creditable 282 points in second place.
