Marshfield Under 11’s – Trinity take the honours!
After last week’s league season finale of Gold v Maroon, the final match of the Under 11 season saw the boys from Marshfield take on the boys from Trinity in a friendly game played in a good competitive spirit. On a glorious summers evening, the boys provided great entertainment in a hard fought match full of excellent skills.
Batting first, the Trinity team all batted well and a final total of 318 – 4 (net 298) was posted, with a late flurry of boundaries being skilfully played by George in the final over. Marshfield replied positively and a swashbuckling 34 from Ollie meant that the game was in the balance as the final pairing arrived at the crease. However, Trinity held their nerve and backed up by some good catching managed to take some late wickets to ensure that Harvey’s late display of hitting was not enough and the innings was closed on 304 – 6 (net 274) and a hard earned 24 run victory for Trinity. The final ball of the match was a tremendous straight six and a fitting way to end a great match and an excellent season.
And so the 2016 Under 11 season has finished, although Friday evening training will of course continue. It has been another really good season with Maroon finishing in second place in the league, closely followed by Gold in fourth position. More importantly, the boys have all played with great levels of skill and enthusiasm and always played with a smile on their faces with non-stop encouragement for their team-mates. Marshfield CC can be proud of all the players, well done boys!
