UNDER 11’s SEASON UNDERWAY WITH TWO WINS
The Under 11’s season is underway! We have entered two teams in the Bath & District Youth Cricket League Under 11 Division (which includes girls up to Under 13) – Marshfield Gold and Marshfield Maroon – and will be playing 8-a-side “pairs” cricket with a hardball. This format of the game ensures everybody has the chance to fully participate with all players having the opportunity to both bat and bowl. The pairs bat for 4 overs each with unlimited lives, each wicket resulting in a loss of 5 runs from the score with the total starting at 200. It is hoped that this format will help all players to take part and enjoy their cricket this summer.
The 2016 season started last Monday with both Under 11 teams in action. Marshfield Gold, last year’s champions, faced a strong Chippenham Blades team and in a good match managed to open their season with a win. Blades scored 287-6 (net 257) and in reply Gold scored 309-7 (net 274) to win by 17 runs. Meanwhile Marshfield Maroon played Beanacre & Melksham at a very chilly Broadleys. The visitors batted first and a good bowling and fielding display restricted them to 254-4 (net 257). In reply a solid batting performance saw Maroon reach 327-1 (net 324) to secure victory.
With over 25 players registered at Under 11 level and only 16 spaces for players on a Monday evening, clearly not everybody will be able to play every week. Our intention is to ensure that all players will get the opportunity to play during the season. All in all a very encouraging start with lots of talent and promise shown and we are looking forward to an exciting season of cricket!
