More good news from the Youth Section at the start of what looks like a promising season ahead….

Our Under 9s got off to a fantastic start to the season with a 100% win record at the Corsham Festival on Sunday. We started with a comfortable victory over Potterne, and finished with an equally comfortable win against the also unbeaten (at that point) Bradford on Avon. Sandwiched in between was a hard fought two run victory over the host’s A team – a real nail biter.

All the boys contributed massively to each game, whether batting, bowling, catching  or fielding. Most pleasing was that boys seemed to really enjoy the games and there was a real team spirit, with lots of supporting and encouraging each other.

Highlights included: a 30 run unbeaten partnership between Ollie and Jacob – from 2 overs; two mighty swept sixes from Arthur in one over; a brilliant sprawling/diving catch from Matty at mid-wicket; some great consistent bowling, and wickets for Johnny, the ‘spin twins’  Alfie and Jonty, and particularly Theo – who was on a hat trick at least once, if not twice!

Thanks to everyone who came along to support, for what was a terrific morning.

Well done boys!

Lead Coach, Martin Knight, who was unable to be there on Sunday, kept in close touch with his troops from afar by text and says, “To win all 3 games is incredible, especially as this was a first outing for many of the children.I hope they all enjoyed the experience."

“Amazing!! Love it. Well done all”

Ben White, Club Secretary

“We have a large group of players in the U9's this year, popularity for cricket is growing in Marshfield which is great to see. Thank you for bringing your children each week to practice and giving up Sunday mornings for games, it's this support that makes Marshfield Cricket Club very special”

Fingers crossed we get sunshine [for the Bath U9 Festival] this weekend.

Ian Bassett

Team Manager, MCC U9s
