Marshfield U13’s start in style!
On Tuesday evening after 2 cancelled attempts, the U13 Bath & District Youth League finally started with a home game against Lansdown Lions. Having been put into bat George Hall and Josh Gay opened the batting and played really well to post a century stand for the first wicket with both getting past 40, a great achievement. Rory Bushell played nicely to finish the innings on a commanding 151 for the loss of just 2 wickets.
In reply Harvey Vellacott produced a sensational spell to destroy the Lansdown top order. After a wicket in his first over, bowling fast and straight Harvey followed up with a triple wicket maiden, all victims clean bowled. Lansdown were unable to recover from this start and all the boys bowled well to dismiss the visitors for 101 and secure victory by 50 runs. Special mention to Sam Duckett for his wicket on his first appearance for the U13’s and a fine catch by Gregg Elmes to dismiss the dangerous Lansdown opening batsman who scored an excellent 50.
The watching Selection Committee were clearly impressed and have picked both Harvey and Josh to represent the 3rd XI this weekend, fully supporting the club’s aspiration to integrate youth players into senior cricket. Well done Harvey and Josh and good luck!
