Based in the south Cotswolds just north of Bath, Marshfield Cricket Club is a friendly and welcoming village cricket club. We are the heart of the local community!
Originally founded in 1901 by the local vicar - although a recent record places a match in or near to the village taking place in the 1870s with WG Grace in attendance! The club had a nomadic existence, playing on a number of different sites in the village until settling at the current village playing field, Withymead, after the Second World War. In 1968 the club purchased a field on the edge of the village, where the present Broadleys ground was established, with the first game taking place in 1970.
We currently run three senior men's competitive sides on a Saturday (and even a 4th XI when numbers permit!) and a friendly side on occasional Sundays and during the week. The First eleven compete in the West of England Premier league Prem 2 Glos/Wilts Division and the Second and Third elevens compete in the Wiltshire Cricket League. They also compete in the National Village Cup on Sunday. In 2009 we reached the last 8 of the competition, just two games away from Lords!
We also have a very active and large youth section, starting at the age of 5 through All Stars Cricket and then moving through to boys and girls age groups playing competitive cricket and Festivals - U9s, U11s, U13s and U15s. We’re very proud of our record in promoting Girls cricket and have equal numbers of boys and girls registered with us. We also run a new Academy Girls’ team playing in the Wiltshire hardball Leagues.
These youth teams play variously in the Bath & District Cricket Leagues, Wiltshire & Gloucestershire Leagues and also compete in regional cups. Please see the youth section pages for more information.
We now have an established Ladies section comprising up to 30 members, playing both softball and hardball cricket and training on Wednesdays. Click here for more information.
Our social side is very lively and very important to us. The bar is open during all matches and we also hold a number of fundraising events throughout the year (quizzes/themed nights/Marshfest) which are well supported. The Friday evening youth practices are also a key part of the local social scene!
Marshfield Cricket Club is very much at the heart village life, with many of the players living in the village. If you're ever in the village on a Saturday during the summer, please come and have a drink in the bar and enjoy some cricket - you will be most welcome.
