Girls Academy Team 2021 Report
Our new Marshfield academy team has just completed its first season. The team is a new venture for the club, a hardball team for older girls and women playing league cricket.
We trained on Friday nights throughout the spring and summer, working on our technical skills and teamwork. We’ve got a brilliant team spirit and a a great set of coaches – some of us have played at the club for almost 10 years. As well as being about cricket, the Friday night sessions are a chance for us to decompress, have fun with team-mates and friends.
We played matches against more established women’s teams such as Calne and Potterne. We had some close matches, though the standard was a step up for us– a bit of a learning curve. However, we had many enjoyable games working well as a team throughout putting the Friday night training to good use!
As the years go on, we hope to attract some more experienced players as well as welcoming in girls from the junior section. We’re proud that since we began playing the girls’ section has boomed, with as many girls playing now as boys. We’re already looking forward to next summer.
Alberta and Bea.
(Huge thanks also to our sponsors Hand and Millar Management Consulting, who provided us with some bright new kit).
