Academy spirits not dampened by 1 run defeat.

On a damp cold mid summer day The marshfield academy girls suffered their 2nd 1-run defeat in a row but the result being the only negative thing about the day.

The 8 a side team of Molly, Ruby, Darcey, Maddy Els, Amelie, Tamia, Lucy and Katy questioning whether cricket really was a summer sport??

But as soon as they stepped out into the pitch they became a TEAM, not daunted by this being the 1st ever women’s league match they had ever played in, they outplayed Calne ladies Cc in every department, but for the Wiltshire ladies captain the result would have been very different.

Brave and good batting, great communication , clever shot placement, superb decision making, very tidy bowling ( only 6 wides in 16 overs - must be a record ? I’ll check ) , 2 fantastic run outs for Amelie, backing up fielding every single time ( another record for us I think ).

Maddy, Molly and Tamia with excellent bowling figures,  Ruby showing that she is turning into a very competent wicket keeper, Lucy hitting the biggest shots of the day, Darcey with the classiest shots of the day and Katy batting and bowling against their 2 county players did amazingly well.

So well done to all the girls and thanks to Andy Leighton and Steve Morris for helping out.

For me this was a very nice way to spend Father’s Day, I don’t think I’ve ever been happier after a defeat .
