The final league game of the season gave us a nail-biting finish to rival England’s penalty shoot-out. Taking to the field at Broadley’s undefeated the boys faced a strong Corsham side and after winning the toss elected to bowl first.
All of the bowlers showed great discipline in keeping the extras down, as has proved to be one of their strengths this season, securing key wickets in the face of some big hitting by some of the Corsham boys. A combination of six finely taken wickets, great teamwork in the field and some maiden overs kept Corsham’s total down to 247, with a particularly strong last four overs by our bowlers. As always supported by the strong foundation of Lewis Lortal behind the stumps, finishing a great season as wicket keeper for the team.
Up against some great bowling our batsmen demonstrated a calmness that betrayed their years at times, fending off the good bowling and picking their shots carefully, with Josh Johnson’s cut to the boundary for four a magnificent stroke. After losing some wickets to great catches, run-outs and bowling by Corsham we entered the last four overs with a run-chase that was managed well by a our final pair Harrison Davis and Max Weston, with Max picking up some critical boundaries to take us past Corsham by just two runs.
Throughout the season all the players in the league have shown great teamwork and sporting behaviour to make us proud, whilst doing so they have also won matches and finished the league not just at the top but undefeated! Superb sportsmanship boys.
