Marshfield U17 defeat Lansdown U17, 15 July 2009

Marshfield U17s achieved a major victory on Wednesday when they inflicted a heavy defeat on the Lansdown U17 XI at the hospital ground, in a Bristol & District League match. The Marshfield batsmen weathered an initial storm of fast bowling to get to 43 for 4 off the first 10 overs before Sam Burnstone (26) and Ian Maclean-Foreman (31) battered the Lansdown attack into submission. Marshfield finished their 20 overs on 135 for 9. The Lansdown batsmen then strode to the crease with unwarranted confidence. A superb display of controlled and hostile fast and medium-fast bowling from Sam Threadgill (4 overs, 3 maidens, 3 for 3), Ben Gardner (4 overs, 1 maiden, 3 for 9) and Matt Cox (4 overs, 1 maiden, 2 for 11), supported by Ian Maclean-Foreman (3 overs, 1 for 15), knocked the heart out of the home side’s innings. Tight and well-organised fielding by Marshfield restricted scoring by the opposition. George Brown (captain) wrapped up the evening’s entertainment by taking the final wicket to leave Lansdown on 51 all out.

Marshfield won by 84 runs!
