MORRIS/VELLACOTT PARTNERSHIP NOT QUITE ENOUGH FOR U11'S
Monday, 14th July 2014
After last weeks improved performance, Marshfield under 11’s produced another good display against strong opposition at a dull and miserable Broadleys. Having lost the toss and being asked to bowl first, Marshfield started well as two wickets from Ben Sinkins opening burst and a wicket for Sam Bellord together with a well executed run out by Ben Mullan and Charlie Delargy reduced the Spears to 28 for 4 wickets. Jess Smith then proceeded to dominate the innings and a fifth wicket partnership of 70 with Lily Riddick recovered the innings. The lively Robert Wilson took 2 wickets for 9 runs at the end of the innings, but Jess Smith was unbeaten on 54 to guide the visitors to a healthy total of 124 for 6 from their 20 overs.
In reply the opening partnership of Tom Morris and Harvey Vellacott found runs difficult to score against some very accurate bowling and tight fielding. However the innings soon gained momentum and the pair batted through until the final over to produce a fine opening stand of 98. Tom Morris played some lovely shots all around the wicket to score an excellent 48 with Harvey Vellacott showing great potential in batting throughout for 25 not out as Marshfield totalled 102 for the loss of just one wicket. If the Marshfield boys can maintain this level of performance then a first win of the season must come soon!
